As the first major agreement of the post-2015 development agenda, it provides Member States with concrete actions to protect development gains from the risk of disaster.

The Sendai Framework works hand in hand with the other 2030 Agenda agreements, including The Paris Agreement on Climate Change, The Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development, the New Urban Agenda, and ultimately the Sustainable Development Goals.

UNDRR has been tasked to support the implementation, follow-up and review of the Sendai Framework and coordinates action within the UN system around disaster risk reduction to make this happen.

Global Platforms for DRR

The Global Platform is a forum for information exchange, discussion of latest developments, knowledge and partnership-building across sectors, with the goal of improving DRR implementation through better communication and coordination amongst stakeholders. It enables governments, NGOs, scientists, practitioners, and UN organizations to share experiences and agree on strategic guidance for Sendai Framework implementation.

Regional platforms

Regional Platforms are multi-stakeholder forums that reflect the commitment of governments to improve coordination and implementation of disaster risk reduction activities while linking to international and national efforts.

National platforms
Implementing the SF - 3

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction encourages the establishment of multi-stakeholder coordination mechanisms for disaster risk reduction, including National Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction, to highlight the relevance, added value and cost-benefit of a coordinated and consistent approach to disaster risk reduction at the national level.

Partners

Reducing risk and building resilience is a collective responsibility and challenge. UNDRR coordinates with a range of partners, from public to private sector, communities and corporations, Member States and media to make sure there is a consistent and comprehensive approach from local to country to global.
